I agree with everyone else. Travelling alone in Japan is safe as long as you're sensibly cautious - that is don't take stupid risks that you wouldn't take in your own country. BTW, the Keisei line is cheaper than the NEX, if price is a consideration. Also, to meet people living in Japan, and possibly for places to stay, check out www.couchsurfing.com.
