Eric....

That is funny! Sounds like you have lots of other stories as well...

Collect a bunch of these stories from your Mom......find a friend who can do illustrations for each.......and you have an amusing best-selling book! Maybe you can self-publish....

Hey Peter-san 2019/1/14 19:35
Are you okay? I hope doing well.
I sent you e-mails several times, but they are all errors. I can not send mail to you. Right now, I am asking to investigate the server of our career. After a few days, I will understand why, I'm sorry.

Email setting 2019/1/18 08:55
Hello Peter and Eric san,

Yokohama has hardly rained since the end of last year and here is dried.
I have errors on you both POP mail and Gmail. I asked my carrier about the error and got the answer. Apparently, it seems that your Email DNS server settings are incorrect. If you have support it, please fix.

January 21st is Eric-san 's birthday. I will drink for him in Japan far from MO.

Cheers,

In view of the terrible upcoming weather, I hope everyone in the midwest, especially Eric, if you're still there, is safe and sound. Take care of yourself and be well......

Hello Peter san,

I still can not send you e-mails. I do not know the reason. My computer has no bugs at all.
And I heard the central part of the US is extremely cold, how is the weather of NH?

Take care

Glad to hear that you are safe.....and that it's warming...
Hit 50 degrees here today, which felt almost like spring, minus the birds and greenery......

Re: Yokohama Navy Exchange was where? 2019/2/18 16:55
Hi everyone. I've been hibernating and see I'm long overdue for checking in. I will be more active once Spring gets here. I've been thinking more about a visit to Yokohama. It's been forty-five years since I visited the Far East and sixty-four years since I lived in Yokohama so I'm overdue for a visit. I'm also thinking seriously about attending a Yo-Hi reunion in Charleston in September even though I won't know anyone there, just to meet and share memories with others who had the luck of living in Yokohama years ago when they were kids.

Hey, Dave 2019/2/19 01:50
I, too, have wrestled with the idea of a return to Yokohama. I have a standing invitation from a pen pal, and this spring would be an idea time since I'm semi-retired and I'd like to see the cherry blossoms again.

But, if you go, don't look for the streetcars, Area 2 housing area, the Bill Chickering Theater, etc.

The American footprint is greatly reduced in this part of Japan. Our former house in Sannotani is now a medical clinic...

Re: Yokohama Navy Exchange was where? 2019/2/19 02:14
I think a return is a fine idea. I have wrestled with it also.
A couple of criteria. How much walking can you do at this point?. and how much baggage can you carry. Money notwithstanding. I think a possible plan would be to stay in Yokohama for about a week, then link up with a pre-arranged small tour Like the ones featured in Samurai Tours {good tours, bad name] then wind back up in Yokohama for a few more days to wind down before leaving. Maybe Dave and Eric might go together...?
I am available to carry baggage.

So the Japanese customs and imirgration Agent asks '' So why are you coming to Japan?" " I have come to see all of the things that are not here now"
"oh really ?"...as he pushes the button to call the Psych evaluation specialist.

Hey, Peter 2019/2/19 02:33
Well...I would like to replenish my supply of tabi socks.

Re: Yokohama Navy Exchange was where? 2019/2/21 01:29
Never had tabbi socks.
When I returned home I had 16 Yukatas that I had collected over the years there,,no not stolen.
I slept in them..as bath and beach robes , reading and everything else. After now 50 years they are all worn out and gone. Did get one from Steffi when we visited them.

Re: Yukata 2019/2/23 00:38
I had to look up "yukata," the word for a summer kimono.
Turns out I have one in my closet. It was my dad's.

It's gray with a black wrap around sash.

Eric
Be sure when you put it on you arrange the flaps in the right way..not hedari-mai.
flaping over in one way is the way that the dead are dressed for burial.
I was out one evening attending Bon Odori and this older woman came right up to me and started to undress me and correct the flap error. I was thinking ..well this could get interesting..my wife looked over with a confused look like..what is going on ..ie Ok Peter what did you start.

Naval Housing Annex Negishi 2019/3/3 01:39
Hello Everyone,

This is very long period, and there were many postings. I am convinced that many US soldiers and their families who have spent in Japan have certainly good memories.

Negishi Heights returned the area to Yokohama City. A small Japanese family live there from their ancestral generations. This is unusual in the US military base in Japan. I think the families were confused. Currently, Negishi is closed and the family who lived moved to Zushi. This is a movie taken in 2018, Maybe last. We do not know yet what is made on the there.

That was interesting !
The Japanese family home can be seen at 1:57 in the video.
I hope the Japanese make good use of it and not an industrial complex.

Kaouru.....
Are the Negishi complex homes still mostly occupied by American personnel, or are they being returned to former Japanese owners?
Interesting to see the one Japanese home there, surrounded by plantings, while the others have mostly grass.Sent
I think I once read that there once was a huge race track in that area.

Re: Yokohama Navy Exchange was where? 2019/3/10 06:47
Currently, most families of Yokosuka navy base live in Zushi's modern and large buildings I guess.

Well, two Japanese families still live in Negishi, they had a life with various constraints. Immediately after the end of the war, GHQ ordered the residents there to build a US military housing very soon. It seems that the inhabitants were very confused.

And in 1980s Honmoku, recently Negishi was returned to Yokohama city. After returning, I do not know where the original Japanese residents live. I will investigate about it.

Yes, Negishi has Japan's first horse race track. I remember there was a golf course near there. And I ate hamburger at the clubhouse, It was good memories.
