@Aya, You stayed for a long time in Japan, 18 years are enough for getting the naturalization and i am sure you will be naturalized soon and will become a Japanese citizen soon. let's share the news whenever you get it from your district legal affairs bureau. BEST LUCK

Hi Sumi, This should be a good news and congratulations! You will probably be in the kanpo soon or be asked to do the renunciation depending on your country. May I ask when you submitted your application and when you had the interview?

Hello bee Thank you for you answer, I think I should then check the Kanpou from now on. My country actually does not allow us to renounce the citizenship, therefore I don't need to make any procedures about that. I applied 7.5 months ago, interview was in February in Tokyo.

Hi Sumi,
Thanks for answering! From what i've seen, if you don't need to renunciate from 2 week to a months on average you will be registered in the kanpo and they will notify you again before or after it

Hey guys, I submitted my paper last year May I got my interview last October They visited my house on November And I went back there again for another interview last March. Last week my officer called me, actually different person from legal affairs office asked me if there is any changes such as change of address, marital status, work, or plan to go abroad. My answer was all NO.
Did anyone of you got the same phone call?

Sharing for reference. I submitted application last april, Saitama. 3.5 months after application I got the interview and home visit on the same day. 10 months after application I got the call asking if there was any change. was told "in about a month you will get the result" 10.5 months after application I saw my name in the kanpo.
Good luck to everyone.

@toni Thank you for this info. 2 weeks after a call from the legal affairs office normally the positive result will be posted in gazette? I was rereading the post of the other participants here. More or less the similarities are obvious. 😅

@kika appliar
if youfre unsure about the officers explanation if I were in your shoes, Ifd rather ask clearly gsekiyusho?h Whatfs the kanji of that word? I mean to enlighten yourself, call back. Maybe they need a paper from your country or follow-up documents.

I think he mean seikyusho, like a paper to ask something. It's possible they will send you a paper to renunce your current citizenship. May i ask what is your nationality if you dont mind?

Hi everyone
I have a question to ask. Which name will appear in kanpou? I mean if you have requested Japanese family name or other name post naturalization.
Thank you

The kanpo will show your current (foreigner) name, not your pre naturalization name

(sorry, I meant not your "post" naturalization name) So if you are JOHN SMITH and you choose as japanese name TANAKA TARO, in the kanpo it will show JOHN SMITH in katakana.
