The contract for Wendy's expired this year in Japan. It should be renewed in the future. There were only 71 stores across Japan, compared to McDonald's 4,000+ stores.

jup, wendy's closed 2010/1/10 20:03
I ate at wendy's on december 31st on their last day before closing with my girlfriend. There was a waiting line of an hour (and this was a small wendy's restaurant, not like the one in ikebukuro etc.) so I guess it means many people are disappointed to see Wendy's go.

I also went to the Burger King in Ikebukuro. It's really small...

Bye Bye Wendys 2010/2/8 19:58
I was heavily disappointed at the Wendy's closing in Japan -- I'm an American in the UK and there aren't any Wendys here, and I was really looking forward to going back when I was in Japan.

A Japanese friend of mine said that compared to other fast food places, Wendy's was more expensive, which may be part of the reason why they didn't immediately renew their contract.

We did eat at the Burger King in Akihabara and the one in Shinjuku (neither of which were there last time, Oct 2008) but I didn't see one in Ikebukuro.
