COE processing times

Just sharing my experience,

Visa: Spouse of Japanese National
Place of submission : Nagoya Immigration
Documents submission : 31 Jan 2024
Request additional documents : 7 Feb 2024
Send additional documents: 14 Feb 2024
Received COE : 8 March 2024

Mine took around 1 month, from what I read in this thread, it seems that the processing time depends on the Immigration office where you submit your documents, provided that your documents are in order (it seems Tokyo immigration processing time is long perhaps because a lot of submission). But that's just an assumption.

Status: Finally approved! - 145 days.
Approved: March 7th Issued: March 10th

My COE finally approved! It was approved on March 7th but issued today. Finally the long wait is over! Hang in there guys from Tokyo immigration!

My husband applied our dependent coe 4 months ago. Now his visa is expired and applied for renewal. Is there any chance of getting of coe before his renewal? Anybody had faced this problem?

We were told the process will take between 1 - 3 months and for sure.

A simple question to those who have got theirs....are they issuing soft copies too or only hard copies.

For SEA at least it comes in the mail and the lawyer forward it to the owner. Then they take a colour copy to the VFS

It�fs difficult to wait for coe . Mine is ginjinkoku visa . I had applied on 27th Jan .. it�fs already 45days , lawyer said it will take 60days so be patience but it�fs kind a hard situation . Everyday wishing for coe ,counting the days and marking it on calendar . Its really a tough time and m depressed . God please give some patience to wait . Please Osaka immigration grant my coe as fast as possible please

I've just applied through an immigration lawyer for COE for spouse of japanese national visa today. I was informed it would take about 3~4 months time to get results from Tokyo Immigration.

I got my child approved COE today at windows P, Tokyo Immigration office.
I suggest that you should check in person to be sure.This is what happened to me, maybe it can help you or serve as preference.

Date approved: 12/25/2023 (they sent in my hoyse but I was abroad celebrating new year til 01/04/2024.

2/28/2024 - I went there and asked the person incharge said that I should wait in my house. He said it will arrive soon but he's not sure when.
3/11/2024 - I called again and they said they can not see where is my mail(COE result)so I asked what should I do. (This time a girl answered) She said that I should try to check again at Shinagawa Immigration Office ,window P.

3/12/2024 : Went there and got the approved COE but it will be expired by 3 months.
Issued : Dec 25,2023

POV: You should check your application status in person. I hope this will help...

I hope for the best ...just entered my fifth month with immigration.... running out of patience and depressed at the same time ....hope to hear from them soon.

I just got the digital copy of my CoE today! Good thing I don't have to wait for the original copy to apply for the visa!
The semester starts in about two weeks, so I barely have time to get the visa and buy a flight.
But anyway, I really feel relieved it finally came after so long.

My wife used a specialist service to apply on our behalf. I am 34 and she is 48.

There seems to be quite a difference in COE processing times for spouse visa�c I understand offices are different. But some from Tokyo are 90 days, some are 200 days and some are still waiting after 6 months!

Does anyone know why there are such differences?

What are the causes for short vs long wait times?

Does your nationality affect wait time?

Are certain countries given priority?

Does using a specialist to apply on your behalf save time?

Does an age gap affect processing times?

As with all of us waiting, I can say I get disheartened, depressed and quite lost while waiting�c.

My COE was issued while I was in Japan and I was able to apply for visa change from tourist to dependent. I handed in the papers last week on Monday and am waiting for a letter (postcard) since.

Does anyone know how long this is gonna take?

We used a law firm/ lawyer to apply for my coe spouse but it's now 5 months since when we call immigration they refer us back to the lawyer and when we call them they just tell us to wait....the immigration office is crowded...... so using specialist doesn't guarantee immediate approval.

I can give you some insight with a similar situation My husband is 40 and I am 25. We used a professional because of age difference, we wanted to make sure we did it correctly. We did our at Tokyo Immigration too. I am from the USA by the way.
