COE processing times

Not yet. I mailed the COE on March 12th and It arrived yesterday to Houston embassy. I received an email saying it will take 5 - 7 days of processing and they'll mail back the visa and my passport. I used Express USPS so it was next day delivery.

Since mine was in October, yours should be done by either next week or the week after.

It should take around 45 days to get your residence card now.

I have one question -

I understand you first came on visitor visa to Japan and applied for CoE either while in Japan or before arriving in Japan on visitor visa and then you got your CoE and applied for status change from visitor to dependent. right?

I am also trying to bring my wife on visitor visa while her CoE is in progress but I heard its now allowed but it seems that you have done this recently.

I went to Japan on Visitor visa and applied change of status with my CoE today 15th March 2024.
Suggested wait time 1 month, but they did say with CoE should not take that long.

I've been going through some of the replies for the past few weeks. I was hoping to find some kind of comfort, but it's just so sad to see how many of you have been waiting/waited for SO long.
I really appreciate all of you out there who have waited and got their COE, and those who are still waiting. I deeply understand how frustrating this period of uncertainty is. I hope with all my heart that our COE gets approved as soon as possible.

- Is your Japanese partner the wife or husband?
- what country are you from?
- how long were you with your partner before marriage?
- how long after marriage did you apply for COE?

I know these are personal, but it would be very helpful for some of us to know if we are in the same boat as you were.

Hi everyone. Been looking through the posts everyday for the past 2 weeks. I know there are people who have been waiting longer than me for the COE. The waiting anxiety is absolutely ridiculous and it has affected my mood so much.

Husband applied for dependant COE for me.

Applied date: 28th December 2023
Additional documents: NIL
Waiting days: 78 days �c..
Applied office: Tokyo Immigration (Chiba Office)


Anyone on a similar timeline as me? Those who have gotten their COE recently is giving me hope for mine to come soon too, those who have yet to receive like me, let�fs all hang in there. I hope everyone receives their COE soon.

2 Days ago my wife called the immigration office because she changed apartment and wanted to know how she should notify the change of address while my COE Is being evaluated, they said She had to send a written paper mail and She Just did yesterday.

As for the status of my application they said it's still under review

A simple question ❓
If you're going to the embassy to apply for a visa must you have bought a ticket already or just booked your flight ✈️.

you don't have to book a ticket. You show the itinerary. Even on the VFS checklist it tells you to not book tickets in advance

Nah, she will be fine. As long as the COE is issued while she already IS in Japan, immigration usually allowed it to change to residency. At least that�fs how I did it.

I�em just waiting on my residence card now, after handing in additional papers after getting the COE.
But I kinda doubt it will take another 50 days.

I didn't know that was possible. I was told I had to stay in America and wait for my COE to be approved and then go to the embassy here in America. I wanted to go to Japan and just change it while I was there, but they told me I couldn't do that...

That�fs what they told me too when I called the immigration.
But my lawyer said that they usually allow it so we tried. And it obviously worked. :)

I�fm approaching the 3rd month of waiting next week. Getting very impatient & anxious.

I just hope they are working towards sending it even before the golden week holidays. I�fm guessing they don�ft work during that time and even after the office opens, they may take their time to start reviewing applications again.

Very very very agitated. I definitely hate being apart from my partner for so long.

Am losing all hope in this Coe...it's our second time applying for it. already anxious 😰 and depressed 😔
